Francis Tells a Story About Kent

Kent was at the ranch with me for over a month
when he was four years of age. When he was back
home, downtown with Mother, he said, “Do they
still sell ice cream cones?”

. . .
For Christmas when he was a year and a half, he just wanted a “wagon and a wope.”
. . .
We had some little friction with our neighbors on the North in Cedar City. Their standards were not as high as our children were trying to live up to and their children had been forbidden to play with ours. These folks moved away and a family came in who had a boy a little older than Kent and a girl a little younger than five year old Kent.
Kent came to his mother and asked to go play with the new neighbors. Annie said, “Honey, let’s not be in too big a hurry but wait and see if they are nice folks. If they are there will be plenty of time to play with them.” A day or two later, Kent came to his mother and said, “I can play with the new neighbors because they are nice folks.” Upon being asked how he knew he said, “I asked them if they were nice folks and they said they were.”
